State of New Jersey Politics Presented at May Dinner Meeting
Social Media Strategies in Bank Marketing Mini-Session Topic
The “State” of New Jersey politics and the effect on the
banking industry was the subject of an engaging presentation
at the Chapter’s May Dinner Meeting. The event was held on
May 16, 2012 at the Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack.
Michael Affuso, Senior Vice President and Director of
Governmental Relations from the New Jersey Bankers
Association was the keynote speaker. Michael discussed a
series of pending developments in the State and local
political arena and shared his expectations regarding how
these issues will ultimately be resolved.
Michael touched on the key races in the fall elections in
the State including the fierce competition in the
Congressional race between Bill Pascrell and Steve Rothman,
two long-time political allies now turned opponents due to
the loss of a seat in the House of Representatives resulting
from redistricting in New Jersey. Michael confidently
predicted that incumbent Governor Chris Christie will
resoundingly win reelection in the fall.
He noted the probability of a minimum wage increase
although it would not be substantial. Michael also reported
that the State budget, totaling $30 billion for the fiscal
year ending June 30, is yet undetermined. He also discussed
the benefits for banks regarding the electronic filing of
commercial real estate foreclosures.
Michael answered a number of
pertinent questions from the Chapter Membership ranging from
student loan debt to the effect on interest rates from the
fall presidential election.
Your eBank Brand was the topic of the
Mini-Session held prior to the cocktail hour. John Siracusa,
CEO of mOSa eBank Marketing Services, provided a very timely
marketing presentation where attendees learned how to
measure a bank’s brand in the community as well as
strategies to improve their reach using social media and
other techniques.
John explained how a successful bank’s social media
strategies differ from those utilized by national brands. He
noted that a successful customer conversion strategy
involves utilizing relevant content that engages the
customer. He stressed the importance of measuring the
success of a marketing program in order to evaluate the
attainment of the program’s goals.
Chapter Members had the opportunity to exchange ideas
without the need for social media “devices” during an
extended cocktail hour following the Mini-Session.
