Chapter Helps Rebuild Hurricane Damaged Home
Joint Effort With Habitat For Humanity
ARTICLE BY DAVID LAUWE - META4 COMMUNICATIONS
An intrepid group of FMS NY/NJ Chapter Members
participated on the rebuild of a home in Little Ferry, New Jersey, on June 4, 2013.
This community was not only damaged by Super Storm Sandy but was severely
impacted due to a levee breach. The home we worked on is one of many homes in
the community fortunate enough to have the assistance of Habitat for Humanity to
help them rebuild.
This particular home is owned by a retired couple
who have lived in the home for 40 years. We were proud to meet the couple
who told us the story of that dreadful day when the water came up 3-4
feet in their home in a matter of minutes. The interior of the home had to
be completely gutted and rebuilt. Fortunately, the owner, a retired
contractor, did a lot of the work himself and then Habitat for Humanity stepped
into to help. He was very grateful not only for our assistance in painting
the interior his home but for Habitat for Humanity.
