The New York/New Jersey Chapter of the Financial Managers Society recently held a Charity Casino Night
to benefit the Lupus Foundation of America. The generosity of the Chapter’s numerous sponsors provided
Members the opportunity to enjoy a full evening of casino gaming while providing valuable funding for
Lupus research. The event was held at the Brownstone in West Paterson, NJ on March 15, 2018.

The evening began with a full course buffet dinner prepared by the expert staff at the Brownstone.
Attendees then participated in a series of casino games including poker, roulette and blackjack as
well as sessions with a pair of tarot card readers. Not unlike the approach used to execute a successful
business plan, each Member clearly attempted to a capitalize on a unique winning strategy.
At the end of the evening, each player’s winning chips were exchanged for chances to win a wide variety
of merchandise and prizes donated by the generous sponsors of the event. Platinum prizes ranged in value
from $250 to $400, including a resort stay, an Apple watch and a Chromebook laptop computer. Gold prizes
ranged in value from $50 to $200, including gift cards, home goods, electronics and a wide variety of personal items.
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that can damage skin, joints, organs and cause inflammation, pain and
severe discomfort to various areas of the body. The disease results in a significant reduction in quality of life.
After decades of research, there is currently no cure. The daughter of Past Chapter President Grace Cruz-Beyer
is one of more than 1.5 million Americans who is afflicted with Lupus.
The substantial funds raised through this event will not only help to provide new and innovative treatments to
help Erica cope with Lupus but will hopefully lead to a permanent cure for all!
Chapter Members are encouraged to join Erica’s team to help find a cure for Lupus. For more information or to
